To audition for any Lone Peak Theatre Company Classes, students must attend the Dance Audition and send a Video Audition by March 15th, 2025

Vocal and acting audition video due by Midnight on March 15th
Students may audition for all company classes in the same audition. Only one audition is required for all classes.
What to Prepare
Dance audition: March 15th at 10:00 AM in LPHS Auditorium

Wear clothes and shoes you can move in.

Come prepared to learn and then perform a short dance combination.
Video audition: Due March 15th by Midnight

Presentation - Students should dress up in a way that reflects the importance of the audition. They should be friendly, poised, and confident. Introduce yourself with your name, grade you will be in for the 2025-2026 school year, and the title of both your audition pieces. This part of the audition should be as well-prepared as the monologues and songs themselves.

Monologue - 30 seconds to 1 minute memorized piece from a play or musical.

Song - 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song, performed with a piano accompaniment or minus track (no acapella).

Musical Theatre

This course is designed to familiarize the performing arts student with the process of auditioning and performing in the realm of musical theater, with the fall musical in November as a major component of the curriculum. Students work individually, as well as in groups, with staging, choreography, and other performance aspects. This is a mixed level, large company, audition class for students who are SERIOUS about performance. Students in this class will be selected, in part, for their maturity and commitment. They will be involved in an aggressive rehearsal schedule as they prepare for the final performance.

Production Acting (Drama 4) is an advanced/competition acting course that provides students with the opportunity to experience several aspects of theatre and theatrical performance. This is an advanced acting course. As such, students in this class will learn to develop and use imagination to create artistic, believable, authentic and relevant theatre works. They will collaborate with their peers as a creative team, learn to observe, listen and respond in character and use their bodies and voice to communicate meaning. Students will develop the skills to analyze scripts and apply appropriate acting techniques to develop character, setting, essential events, technical elements and appropriate blocking techniques. Additionally, this class will produce the main stage play and compete at the Region and State Drama Competitions. This company is designed for those students who are SERIOUS about performance. Students in this class will be selected, in part, for their maturity and commitment. They are a select group of performers who will be involved in an aggressive rehearsal schedule as they prepare for the final performance and competitions.

Productions Company is a year-long hands-on course that provides students with the opportunity to experience levels of dance, music, and drama through performance and critique. Theatrical studies throughout the year will focus on performance. Students enrolled in the class will perform in the winter main stage musical in February and spring showcase in May. We spend time inside of class as well as outside of class rehearsals to create relevant and interesting works of art. Our studies highlight auditioning technique, a variety of choreography styles, and the creation of stylized movement and vocal sequences. This is an intermediate-advanced audition course to study acting, singing and dancing. They will collaborate with their peers as a creative team, learn to observe, listen and respond in character and use their bodies and voice to communicate meaning. Students will develop the skills to analyze scripts and apply appropriate acting techniques to develop character, setting, essential events, technical elements and appropriate blocking techniques. Projects in this class require an ability to be an independent learner and to be motivated by setting internal goals to complete an assignment. Students should be driven by their own personal achievement, and an intrinsic desire for excellence. This class is designed for those students who are SERIOUS about performance. Students in this class will be selected, in part, for their maturity and commitment. They are a select group of performers who will be given the opportunity to participate in an aggressive rehearsal and performance schedule.​​​


Non-Audition Classes
Drama 2
A1 - 1st semester only
This is a beginning level class, and is designed primarily for students who have not had a lot of experience acting or performing, but any level of experience can benefit from honing their craft! This course exposes students to the foundational elements of drama and the conventions of theatre. Students will work on projects in connection with pantomime, vocal interpretation, improvisation, monologues, duo and trio acting, and group performances. Performing in front of the class and fellow peers. Students will also study the essential elements of story, and how to employ movement, vocal variety, and other conventions to communicate theme and purpose. Students will develop an understanding of the historical and cultural influences on theatre and analyze the roles of live theatre, film, television, and electronic media in American society.

Drama 3 - Concurrent Enrollment

This is an intermediate level class, and is designed primarily for students who have theatre experience. Students will be expected to hone their performance skills as well as enhance their knowledge of the theatre industry as a whole. Performing in front of the class and fellow peers. The course is calculated to encourage a sense of self-confidence, to cultivate creative gifts, and to provide students with numerous and varied opportunities to develop and improve their skills in theatre — skills that are valuable not only in theatre, but that are marketable in nearly every academic and professional field. These skills include but are not limited to: creativity and innovation, confidence and clarity in performing, critical thinking, analysis and interpretation, collaboration, as well as learning to connect with peers, their community and the world around them. Students are expected to attend theatre performances outside of regularly scheduled class time.

Stagecraft (Beginning Technical Theatre)
B6 - 1st semester only
Stagecraft is an introductory level technical theatre course. This hands-on course aims to teach life skills in all aspects of the technical theatre arts, such as set design and construction, painting, lighting and sound fundamentals, stage makeup, costume design and construction, props construction, and stage management. Students will be required to build sets, costumes and props and paint during class periods. The majority of the grades given in this class are from daily focused technical theatre work on the current show. Each student will do several projects preparing them for their final. They will team up with advanced students to develop necessary skills in all aspects of technical theatre.

Stage Crew (Advanced Technical Theatre)
B7 - Full year

Outside tech hours are required in this course.
Stage Crew is a year-long advanced technical theatre course, with a hands-on approach to teach life skills in all aspects of the technical theatre arts. Because students should already possess an introductory level of technical theatre construction and operation, the main focus of this class will be on design and implementation of their designs for the theatre department productions. This class will focus on the development of proficiency in the following fields: costume, prop, lighting, sound, scenic design, dramaturgy and stage management. Students will leave this class with skills necessary for university studies and the technical theatre job market. Additionally, LPHS stage crew students are responsible for running the school auditorium to assure the success of events that take place in the school auditorium. This class requires extensive after school and out of school time during rehearsals and performances.​

Scriptwriting
A2 - Offered both semesters

This course is an introduction to the techniques of script writing for both the stage and screen with an emphasis on dramatic structure, visual language, character development, and developing an individual voice. The focus will be on script writing guidelines, character development, plot design, and creation of storylines. Students will also practice individual script development through peer review and provide thoughtful and respectful feedback through group critiques. Students will complete a number of writing exercises which will ultimately result in the development of an original short script. The Utah state core standards associated with ELA 11/12 standards will be followed.​
